Linear and circular polarized omnidirectional antenna for the 2 meter amateur band
The "Egg Beater" antenna is horizontally polarized for low beam angles and circularly polarized for signals with a vertical angle of incidence between 60°-90°. This feature makes the antenna ideally suited for satellite communications without the use of large directional antennas and azimuth / elevation rotors.
Regardless of orbital speed, direction and elevation, with the "Egg Beater", without the use of an advanced antenna system and sat tracking software, you receive the signals from a satellite or ISS as soon as it appears above the horizon (AOS) with its characteristic of a horizontally polarized radiating antenna. During the further trajectory and with increasing elevation, the antenna gradually makes use of its characteristic as an omnidirectional RH circularly polarized antenna with a gain of about 6 dBic to then function as a horizontally polarized antenna again before settling down (LOS). No rotation or steering is required.
