For nearly two years Bob Heil and his design team have been working with serious amateur radio operators to bring the best headset containing the most amazing features. They designed the new Heil HC-6 that, by adjusting the DSP EQ of the modern transceivers, will produce beautiful, full range broadcast audio as well as narrow response contest/DX audio of the Heil HC-4, all from this one specially designed dynamic microphone element. The many 'voices' of the HC-6 are truly amazing.
The
Heil Sound ProSet Elite offers dual side, full ear muff with high rejection of outside noise, speaker phase reversal, rugged attached microphone boom, flexible to 6' coil cable and washable ear pad covers. The exclusive Heil Phase Reversal speaker switch is used to acoustically 'move' the signal from front to back. Reversing the phase creates a spatial widening of the sound field making it easier to 'see' a radio signal in a pileup as well as removing listening fatigue.
The two speakers are terminated in a stereo 1/8" male connector and comes with a stereo 1/4" adapter. The tip is the left speaker while the ring is the right speaker.
The ProSet Elite 6 microphone contains the Heil HC-6 full range dynamic broadcast element. Designed for commercial broadcast applications, the - 3 dB points of the wide frequency range are set at 80 Hz and 12.5 kHz, with sensitivity of - 57 dB at 600 Ohms nominal output impedance centered at 1 kHz. The HC -6 audio response can be equalized to match just about any requirement.
Designed exclusively for iCOM radios, the iC Electret element has a -3dB fixed point at 35 Hz and 12kHz with the sensitivity of-48 at 1500 ohms output centered at 1kHz. The iC element solves the problems with LOW GAIN ICOM radios but can also work with great results on newer Icom models. Bias power is applied to operate the iC electret element.
The heavy-duty microphone boom can be adjusted for proper placement which best performs with the microphone placed slightly below the lower lip. It is advisable to position the microphone parallel to the floor and talk across the element which reduces breath blasts. The supplied windscreen does noet change the frequency response, but only the breath blasts directly into the microphone.
There is a stainless steel band inside the padded top band. By bending that top band you can adjust the pressure on your ears to a comfortable level.
The field-replaceable cushioned ear pads also come with removable cotton covers that can be easily removed for washing. The 6' coiled cable terminates in a 1/8? mono plug for the microphone, and a stereo 1/8? plug for headphone speaker connection. A 1/8? to 1/4? adapter is also supplied.
The ProSet Elite works with all Heil AD-1 adapter cables, which mate with just about every type of amateur radio transceiver. To find out which AD-1 adapter will work with your radio please consult the

First review from W5GI
I'm an audiophile and generally prefer smooth sounding audio but I also need a mic that can emulate the classic response of the HC-5 and HC-4 elements.
I've been waiting for Heil to come out with a headset that has great full range audio. The wait is over. Heil's Pro-Set Elite (PSE) headset with HC-6 element has great low end response ( more than the HC-5 or other communications microphones), yet it can sound like a HC-5 or HC-4 using the transmit filters and equalization settings in just about all modern radios.
I've used the PSE attached directly to my FLEX 5000 and with my Icom 7600. I've also used it with W2IHY equipment. The bottom line is simply great transmit audio for any operating condition.
The headphones reproduce the receive audio exceptionally well; the big cushioned speakers easily block out unwanted noise.
I've used a variety of headsets over 50 years, some very expensive. I was never satisfied UNTIL the arrival of the Pro-Set Elite.
In summary, if you want the ultimate in headsets, the Heil Pro-Set Elite is the way to go.
